Recommendations for Stuffing of Refrigerated Cargo:

• Load/unload the container with the shortest amount of time possible so that the ambient temperature does not affect the container and the cargo.
• Ensure packages are stowed with adequate spacing in between for good and uninterrupted airflow.
• Cargo should be packed minimum 100mm from the rear door to prevent short cycle of airflow preventing air returning to the reefer machinery.
• Cargo should never be stored above the red load line within the reefer container; otherwise it will impede the airflow.
• Do not leave large spaces where cargo could collapse during transit
• The total cargo weight should not exceed the maximum payload within the container.
• The total gross weight (including container tare weight) should not exceed the road limitation in any transit points during the transportation journey.
• It is strongly recommended not to mix load different types of commodity under same load. Some of these cargos (mainly chilled fruits) have its own required temperature and carrying condition (air exchange). E.g. Produce with high ethylene content can cause rapid deterioration to highly sensitive cargo like grapes, plums, nectarine, etc.

Palletization serves to increase cargo-handling efficiency

Two major types of pallets, “Europallet” and standard pallets.o “Europallets” size is 800mm x 1,200mm per piece. A 20′ container can hold eleven “Europallets” in one tier while a 40′ container can hold 23-24 “Europallets”
o Standard pallets size is 1,000mm x 1,200mm per piece. A 20′ container can hold nine to ten standard pallets in one tier while a 40′ container can hold 20-21 standard pallets in one tier.

The 340 square meter container home, designed by architect Maria Jose Trejos, was built from stacking four shipping containers. The two-story container home structure ended up being much easier to complete than a typically constructed home, saving roughly 20 percent of the cost of a standard concrete block design.

Made of scraps taken from the containers’ sides, the roof creates a sense of openness from the inside and ushers in sunlight. Its slanted design creates a wind tower effect, providing natural ventilation that minimises the need for air conditioning.

Here are other examples of hostels from around the world. Flophouze is an eco-chic shipping container hostel located in Round Top, Texas. These gorgeous containers, created by owner Matt White, set an ultimate example of how to bring together repurposed materials and create something beautiful. The interiors are cladded with sustainably harvested wood as well as reclaimed lumber from across America. Windows were salvaged from a school in Philadelphia that was up for demolition.

   Constructed out of brightly-painted shipping containers stacked on top of each other, The ‘Ccasa Hostel’ houses bunk bed rooms that are connected by aerial bridges with giant overhanging communal hammocks. Located in Nha Trang, Vietnam and designed by TAK Architects.

  PUMA retrofitted 24 shipping containers to create PUMA City, a transportable retail and event building. With 1,020 square meters (11,000 square feet) of space, the three-level stack of containers was then assembled and disassembled at several different locations, creating a truly mobile retail experience. By offsetting the individual containers, they were able to create internal outdoor spaces, cantilevered overhangs, and terraces. The structure also featured two full retail spaces on the lower levels, both designed with large, double-height ceilings and a 4-container-wide open spaces. Offices, a press area, and storage were located on the second level, with a bar, event space, and a large open terrace at the top.
